1. Three students will be selected to stand in the hall near the classroom door while other students observe.
2. Do you think that the students in the hall can see around the corner into the classroom?
3. Give the three students in the hall a straw and ask them if they can now see around the corner into the classroom.
4. Do you think that the students in the hall can see around the corner into the classroom with the straw?
5. If the students bend the straw, do you think that they will be able to see around the corner?
6. Each student will take a straw and look though it with one eye with the straw straight and again after they bend the straw.
ASSIGNMENT:

3. Each group will be given 3 index cards with holes, 1 index card without a hole and a flashlight.
4. Choose one index with a hole in it and shine the flashlight toward the hole. Leaving space,place the index card without the hole behind the first card.
DISCUSSION QUESTION #1:
What do you see? The group writer will record this finding as #1 on the Discussion page
.5. Now place a third card between the first card and the card without the hold. You may have to move the cards around in order to get the light from the first card to shine through the second card.
DISCUSSION QUESTION #2:
What do you see on the third card (card without the hole)?
6. Now put a fourth card with a hole in it between the flashlight and the screen.
DISCUSSION QUESTION #3:
Can you still get a spot of light on the screen?
7. Remove the card without the hole without moving the other three cards.
8. Try sticking a straw into the holes with out bending it.
